No one wants to see a child sad at any point, let alone Christmas time. At the age of two years old, kids should be feeling nothing but joy, wonder, and magic during the holiday season. Well, in the UK, 2-year-old Edward spent the entire holiday beside himself with worry because his best friend, Morse, went missing. It took the kindness of a mega-celebrity to help bring Morse home.
OH NO
At first, Edward’s mom and dad, Richard and Amanda Latter, did everything they could to locate Morse. They were heartbroken when the couldn’t find their young son’s best friend. Like many people nowadays, they took to social media to attempt to locate their pet.
Richard took to Facebook and started a group dedicated to one thing: locating Morse. Even little Edward joined in the search and wrote Santa a heart-wrenching letter.
“Dear Father Christmas,” wrote Edward. “I just want one present for Christmas this year, my dog Morse back. I’ve been a very good boy all year. Thank you, Edward aged two and three-quarters.”
It was then, after the social media posts gained some attention, that a very special celebrity stepped up to the plate. None other than Simon Cowell of American Idol fame decided enough was enough.
WHOA!
“It’s heartbreaking to see a little boy’s Christmas ruined,” a representative for Cowell told the Daily Mail. “Dogs are so important to so many of us. We just hope it helps lead to the safe return of Morse.”
So what did Cowell do to help, you ask? Well, to grease the wheels and get things moving Simon Cowell put up the money to offer a $10,000 reward for Morse’s safe return. Right away, according to Richard, they started receiving tips.
While it was indeed nice that people were trying to help, Christmas came and went with no sign of Morse.
WEEKS
Finally, weeks after the search began, the Latter family received some promising news. A man that lives in the area called them and informed them that he had seen a “dirty, muddy dog” roaming around the neighborhood where he lived.
According to the caller, the dog looked exactly like the one in the photos. Of course, though, the family was worried it was another dead end.
“Me and Amanda were still quite skeptical, but Edward saw him and recognized him right away,” said Richard.
Adorably, as soon as little Edward laid eyes on his best friend he knew Morse was finally home.
“We instantly broke down in tears,” explained Richard. “I was delirious for a few seconds; it was wonderful, we were just hugging each other, hugging Edward, and hugging the dog.”
Most of us know Simon Cowell as the hardline judge who wasn’t always very kind. It’s incredible to see that inside; he’s a giant teddy bear who can’t bear to see a boy separated from his best buddy during the holidays.
It is unclear whether or not the man that found Morse took the reward. At this point, though, who cares? One little boy has his best buddy back in his arms, in large part because of a special celebrity with a big heart.
