It’s easy to get so wrapped up in life that we complain about little things that are just that, very little. Then you hear of something much bigger and it puts in perspective our little troubles.
One 7-year-old girl named Emma Mertens, had reason to be down. She had just been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. But instead of sulking, she found a way to cheer herself up.
Emma asked her parents if she could see people’s dog photos. Her parents obliged and asked on social media if people would post dog photos in the comments of the post. It didn’t take long for lots of dog photos to show up. Emma was very happy to see all of the dog photos.
But when the local police departments heard what was going on, they went the extra mile.
K-9 Units Show Up At Emma’s House
Approximately 40 canine police dogs and their handlers showed up outside of Emma’s home. The Hartford Police Department wrote in a Facebook post,
“Today just a few of us (roughly 40) stopped by to see Emma. She had no idea we were coming, so she was VERY excited. What an amazing and strong little girl. It was such a great morning.”
Emma’s parents explained that the dogs made Emma very happy. They wrote,
“There are no words….Pure Joy! Thank you to everyone who took the time to organize and participate in this. Emma is still all smiles! Over 35 different departments and many more K9s and officers.”
In a day and time when we often hear so many negative things in the world, this is truly an inspiring thing to witness. Thank you to the police officers who came out with their K-9 units to cheer up Emma. You have inspired many with your acts of kindness.
We hope this post will inspire you to do something special for someone this week. You never know how one act of kindness could change someone’s life.
