Utah resident Tim Crowley was in the right place at the right time when a little bird fell from the nest. However, he was too intoxicated to drive the bird to a bird rescue place. So he did the next best thing. He called an Uber for a ride just for the bird.
Crowley was in his backyard having beer with friends when the baby bird entered the scene. “We were just hanging out under the tree it fell out of,” Crowley explained. At first, he wasn’t sure what to do, but then they decided to get the bird to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah.
“We had a few beers and didn’t feel safe to drive,” Crowley said. “That was when one of our friends first suggested we call an Uber. It was a joke at first, but we said why not?!”
So that is exactly what they did. “What started as a joke quickly turned into a great idea,” Crowley said.
The Little Bird Was Escorted To the Center By The Uber Driver
The Uber driver wasn’t as convinced it was such a good idea at first. “She was like, ‘What?'” Crowley said. “She was shocked.”
But still, the Uber driver followed through and gave the bird a ride to the rehabilitation center. Once arrived at the center, the staff was also shocked.
“While we feel we’ve seen it all and can’t be amazed by anything, there is always someone out there to prove us wrong,” the rehab center posted on Facebook. “Thank you to the rescuer who helped this little one get the care it needed in a timely manner and thank you for keeping yourself safe and others on the road safe as well!”
The little bird, named Petey by Crowley, is doing well. In fact, the plan is to release him into the wild in the next few weeks. But first, he needs to learn to survive on his own and get bigger.
Good job to Crowley and his friends for saving this little bird.
