Service dogs work hard. They are required to focus their attention on the task at hand. That is also why people are reminded to not pet a service dog when it’s working. But all work and no play isn’t good for anyone. So for one service dog named Nala, when she gets to relax, she goes to her favorite theme park.
Nala is a service dog for her owner Megan Leigh. When the duo visits Disney World, Nala is working. But she’s also having fun at the same time.
Nala has been such a huge blessing to Leigh,
“I have always loved Disney. Before I got a service dog, my health would get in the way of me traveling independently. So now I can go to Disney and enjoy myself because Nala helps me be more independent.”
Nala is able to go on the rides with Leigh too. “They can go on any rides with their handler as long as they don’t have a height requirement,” Leigh explained. “Her favorite ride is the People Mover because she can feel the wind in her face!”
Nala has more favorites other than just the Disney rides. “Her favorite parts of Disney would be going to the Magic Kingdom,” Leigh said. “She loves doing character meet-and-greets as her ‘Go say hi’ command is a fun reward for her. Meeting the princesses is a favorite!”
The Disney princesses treat Nala like royalty. “[The princesses] love her! Many of them recognize her because we are annual pass holders,” Leigh said. “They always say, ‘Hi Nala! It’s so good to see you again!’”
Nala loves all of the attention that she receives. Her favorite princesses are Ariel and Cinderella. Ariel always asks if Nala would like to sit on the bench with her. Apparently, Cinderella gives great belly rubs.
Leigh takes great care of her companion, Nala. She puts protective booties on her paws and keeps a cooling vest on her for those hot days. “We are best friends and a team! She helps me, I help her,” Leigh said. “A balance is important in working dogs. That’s why I believe it’s so important that she gets to have fun at Disney, too.”
Together, these two sure make quite a team. Good job Nala and Leigh!
