People always identify what type of dog-person they are. Either they are a small dog person or a big dog person. Most often than not, dog owners usually stick with their favorite type of dog, big or small. Bobby Humphreys has spent his entire life loving only big dogs. But recently he has opened his heart for the better.
Humphreys spends his day’s bodybuilding in Boonsboro, Maryland. Along with the gym, he also lays down hardwood. Of course, big dogs would only fit his larger physique. He has been known to even make fun of people with small dogs.
During his 17-year marriage, Humphreys and his wife have invested in many Rottweilers. He comments,
“Who can have the toughest-looking dog? We’re all insecure at heart I was just that ‘Big Dog Guy.’ I never even thought of a little dog.”
Not too long after, his wife left him. He comments, “I’m a very sensitive person and she was my
world. I was lost. I started drinking for a purpose instead of just socially.”
It wasn’t much later when one of Humphreys friends asked him to watch her (small) dog. At first, he was very hesitant. But eventually, he gave in:
“After about 15 minutes I said, ‘Screw it, I don’t care if this dog bites me or not, she is not going to be sitting in a kennel. Connie came over to check
on her an hour and a half later and when she walked in, she was totally amazed. Lady was in my lap, and we’ve been inseparable ever since.”
His world changed drastically after he spent time with a small dog!
Humphreys adds, “I was missing a lot of work, I couldn’t get out of bed. The only thing that was keeping me going was Lady. I’d lay in bed all day with her, we’d play, we got so close. I fell in love with this little dog.”
After hanging out with Lady, he found Harley and Quin:
“Any of you that have seen pictures of or met Harley, know that she very much fits the ‘Rugrats’
description. She’s lumpy, she’s a little off, pretty
much hairless and very fragile.”
He adds, “I started to see a pattern. So many of these little beautiful babies are being abused or taken advantage of and I just couldn’t sit by and watch it happen.”
Then the unexpected happened, Humphrys opened the Big Little Sanctuary, which was for small dogs! finally, he explains, “I’m a big guy, but I’m technically living in this little world, because no matter if there’s 37 [dogs] like there are now, or there’s two, my entire life revolves around them. There’s just a heart inside these guys that’s truly amazing.”
