We often hear of dogs saving people’s lives. But it is rare to hear of a cat doing the same thing. If you are a cat lover, then this story is for you. Cat’s are heroes too!
A stray cat named Marsha found an abandoned baby dumped in a cardboard box on a cold night. Marsha stayed next to the 12-week old boy and kept him warm. Then she began meowing loudly and frantically as if calling for help.
68-year-old Irna Lavoraa heard Marsha, as she was out throwing away garbage. The sound was coming from a large basement.
Lavoraa went to investigate and found a baby boy who was still warm. Marsha had been laying next to him and providing extra warmth on that freezing cold night. She called for medical help immediately and the boy was rush via ambulance to a nearby hospital. As the ambulance took off with the boy, Marsh rushed after it. It was as if she had total concern for the little boy.
“She was so worried about where we were taking the baby. She ran right behind us, miaowing, ambulance driver Vera Ivanina said. “She was really a rational creature.”
Lavora has known Marsha for quite some time. Lavora and other neighbors take turns feeding and caring for the homeless cat. Larvora explains,“She (Masha) is very calm and friendly, so when I heard her mewling, I at first thought she might have hurt herself. But clearly, it was just her maternal instincts taking over and she wanted to protect the child.”
Authorities are now looking for the parent(s) or caretaker who abandoned this precious baby boy. Because of Marsha, he is alive and well today. And as for Marsha, she has a neighborhood fan club who continues to look out for the well being of this hero of a cat.
