Cop Rushes To Apartment Fire–Sees A Motionless Dog In The Apartment

In the early morning on January 8th, officers Robert Winkler and Austin Denninger head off to an apartment fire in downtown Atlanta.

As firefighters worked to kill the fire, the cops ran into the building to check the area. Wanting to make sure nobody got trapped or needed help in the building, they saw something heartbreaking.

“At first I didn’t realize what it was, but then I saw it was a dog,” Robert recalled,“I just saw this one little paw, this kick. And I thought, ‘Oh no, that’s not good.’”

In the footage, it shows the dog unconscious and barely breathing. The officer recalled not knowing if the dog still lived.

Scooping up the dog, the officer carried him outside. He began performing compressions on the dog to help it breathe.

“When it finally started to come to and it caught its breath, it seemed breathtaking for me,” Austin said.

Because they can’t locate the dog’s owners, the sent him to Fulton County Animal Services. With the name Smokey, he awaits adoption.

Smokey still has a cough from all the smoke he inhaled. Otherwise, he came out a very lucky pup.
