One thing that I love about rescue stories is that they are so unique. Animals find a way into our hearts in many different ways. One of the most common ways is when humans go to an animal shelter and take home a dog or cat. Or sometimes when a family member or friend dies, a special person steps in and takes their pets in. However rescues find us, each story is special. This story that you are about to read is about a dog finding his forever home by God’s perfect timing.
Emily Trost and her boyfriend were on a road-trip adventure. They planned on being gone for 10 weeks as they traveled the country. They stopped at an exit in a Montana town for gasoline and snacks. Little did they know that their next dog was waiting for them. The couple could have stopped at the next exit to get gas, and missed the stray dog, but they didn’t. They stopped at this exit and it has made all the difference.
They Were Surprised To Find A Dog By Their Car
When Emily and her boyfriend came back to their vehicle after shopping at the gas station store, they couldn’t help but notice a sad looking dog laying down by their vehicle. Assuming the approximately 7-month-old pup must belong to someone, they went back inside and asked around.
“Our initial thought was that she was the pet of someone else using the gas station,” Emily explained. “My boyfriend and I went around to others at the gas station asking if she was theirs. We also waited for her to see if somebody came out of the gas station store to claim her. Nobody did, and as we were waiting, we realized how dirty she was with thorns, twigs, and prickly things all caught in her long hair and our hearts broke for her.”
A woman who had been feeding and taking care of homeless dogs out of the goodness of her heart explained that the dog had no home. The woman pleaded with Emily and her boyfriend to take the dog with her. Emily and her boyfriend decided to take the pup onboard and take it to a local animal shelter. But their plans changed rather quickly once they got to know the dog.
This dog could have waited her whole life for a home, or more realistically would have died at a young age from the unhealthy life of a stray. But just like that, she found a home. The couple decided to name her Montana from the state that they found her in.
Montana showed gratitude signs that she knew she had hit the jackpot. “The morning after we got her was the best,” Emily said. “She woke up in our tent and started crawling up to our heads, whimpering and giving us kisses. We could tell she was truly surprised that we were still there with her and that no human had probably ever stayed with her for that long.”
Montana proved herself to be an easy keeper and excellent traveler “She loved the rest of the trip, always excited to hike and swim with us,” Emily said. “She was great in the car and would just lay down and sleep. She even loved sleeping in the tent every night and learned very quickly that wherever our tent was set up was home.”
When their trip came to an end, Emily was a little nervous about taking her home. She needed to introduce Montana to her other dogs at home. But to her surprise, they all welcomed Montana into the family with no issues. Montana was home at last.
With so many negative stories on the news, I hope that this story provided a ray of sunshine in your day. If it did, make sure to share the love by sharing this story with a friend.
