On the streets of North Carolina, Spyder started life neglected and ignored after being dumped by his owners. He was abandoned and unwanted, as well as his friend who unfortunately didn’t make it. This poor dog became skin and bones because he refused to leave his friend’s side. Spyder was starving and dehydrated, yet stayed with his friend instead of going for help. It is sad indeed, and yet Spyder showed loyalty to a friend who had already crossed the rainbow bridge.

Someone finally noticed him clinging to his friend and took the proper action of calling authorities. Spyder was rescued by animal control and taken to the local shelter where he would get the help he needed.
“He was very wary of people when he was picked up, but I think also relieved to see help because he was so weak and emaciated himself and covered in open wounds,” Jacquelyn O’Sullivan of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC told The Dodo. “He wouldn’t have made it much longer on his own, especially out there alone.”
Dog Found on Halloween Gets a Proper Name
Since rescuers found this little dog on Halloween, and he was all black, they decided to name him Spyder.

Spyder was then checked out by vets at the shelter where they found him loaded with parasites, overgrown nails, patches of missing fur and infected wounds. He was anemic and dehydrated, receiving a body score of one out of nine. This meant he was severely emaciated. No wonder this dog had become skin and bones!
The shelter was also worried that Spyder was too medically challenged for them. They decided to reach out to Rescue Dogs Rock NYC to take care of him, and give him the proper care he needs.
Getting the help he needs brings out the pup in Spyder.
Once he was taken to the vet’s rescue partners in South Carolina, Spyder finally got the help he so desperately needed. They started him on antibiotics and IV fluids in hopes his condition would turn around. When he arrived, Spyder only weighed 15 pounds. He has a long way to go before he is fully recovered. The staff is confident he will make a full recovery, as he is improving each day.
“He’s still shy and a little wary of strangers, but he’s doing better,” O’Sullivan said. “[He’s] getting a little stronger every day. He’s got a long road back both physically and mentally.”

Spyder has proven that he’s a loyal dog when he wouldn’t leave his friend’s side, even after he had passed away. He continues to prove he’s a fighter, and his sweet personality is shining through bit by bit. Once he makes a full recovery, he will be able to go on and find his forever home. All he needs is a little love and attention, which Rescue Dogs Rock NYC has proved they’re doing.
