Andy Szasz suffered a horrible case of pneumonia. Andy was rushed to a nearby hospital when his breathing stopped. Upon arrival, the hospital put him in an induced coma in the intensive care unit.
Doctors estimated he would wake up in about a week from his treatment. While in the hospital, his wife Estelle brought in their four-year-old schnauzer/poodle mix, Teddy.
After seeing Andy in this condition, Teddy seemed startled. Teddy began barking seemingly to wake Szasz up. Much to the doctor’s surprise, Teddy actually helped wake him up from his coma.
Luckily, Andy Szasz made a full recovery. He now lives healthily.
Teddy’s life seems to be going pretty great too.
Teddy earned an award! He received the award at a ceremony held by U.K.’s Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) for helping his owner wake up.
However, Teddy helped his human another time, Szasz adopted Teddy in 2012, he fought his battle with bowel cancer. With Teddy by his side throughout his whole treatment, Andy became able to fight this battle and beat the disease.
“I always tell people I rescued Ted and Ted rescued me,” Szasz said in a statement. “We certainly do have a special bond.”
Szasz and Teddy’s bond gets closer and closer every day.
