Dog Owner's Dying Wish Was For His Dog To Find The Perfect New Home

This story is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. People who love their pets will most likely greatly appreciate and respect the letter that this man wrote before he died.

An animal shelter took in a dog with a letter that said, “I am writing you cause I need you to take my dog, Shell. My mother adopted Shell from Stray Rescue around 2009-2010 … In 2012 she had a massive stroke and now has Alzheimer’s. So in 2012 Shell came to live with me. I’ve been fighting cancer for a few months and if you’re reading this I lost my battle. I need for my baby girl to be taken care of in a home with one person. Shell is a very sweet little girl. She’s been through a lot so she has trouble with trust in the beginning. She loves to cuddle but doesn’t like to be carried. She’s very smart.”

Though this is quite a sad story, read on because it has a happy ending for the dog.

Happy Ending For Shell

The shelter set about to honor the man’s wishes.  They didn’t just adopt the dog out to anyone, but instead to only one person who they felt met the specifications in the owner’s letter request. Finding the right one wasn’t an easy task. Many people applied. Finally, the perfect match was found.

The shelter described the chosen owner on a Facebook post. The shelter’s post stated, “She just felt so drawn to her. Wasting no time, she filled out an application and was here the very next morning. The two of them hit it off and she knew it was definitely the right time. She says Shell is already running the house, and that they are inseparable.”

The post went on, “We and the shelter staff are truly honored to find that special person for this super special doggie and to honor those very touching requests of the previous late owner.”

I don’t know about you, but I’m so thankful that the previous owner took the time to prepare his dog for his next home by writing that letter. That simple act meant that Shell would live on in a loving home with the right person. Love never dies.
