Donkey Is Rescued, But What He Does Next Is Heart Warming

Shocks the donkey was found by rescuers lying in a field in Ireland with a rope tied tightly around his neck.  His neck was covered with sores from the rope and his owner thought pouring bleach on his wounds would help.  A new beginning was waiting for him, not only to get the help he needed but that he would be helping others.

When They Met

Shocks and Amber met at The Donkey Sanctuary in England.  Most of the animals there are rescued and become therapy donkeys.

Amber was born prematurely and couldn’t breathe. Doctors gave Amber an emergency tracheostomy, a surgery that put a pipe in her neck to let air in, saving her life – but it cut off airflow from her vocal chords, rendering the little girl totally mute. She also has cerebral palsy, which makes it difficult for her move around.

The first time they met it was love at first sight.  It was Amber’s first time meeting a therapy animal and Shock’s first patient.  But you could see how much they needed each other.

Therapy Animals Help Kids and Adults

Most therapy animals encourage their patients to do things that are hard.  It’s amazing to see how animals can motivate anyone.  Shocks helped Amber to build up strength and she even learned to ride.  Thanks to Shocks and many therapy animals like him kids have a chance to grow up strong and confident.
