For a homeless dog, life is not always easy, so if an opportunity comes to find shelter, they usually jump on it!

For a dog, now named River he literally jumped on his opportunity. When he saw a car door open, he jumped right in. Luckily, his choice led him to meet his new family, the Shavers. The man in the car is named Bill, and he fell in love with River at first sight.

Bill’s wife Angela comments,

“I asked him what our new dog’s name was. We decided to call her River because of where she found him.”

Once the entire family, including the other pets, met River, they agreed to keep him. Angela adds,

“Once they all decided she was OK, he [Bill] brought her in for a bath. She was covered in mud, blood and ticks. After she was dried off and some ticks picked off, she got a good meal. Bill made her a bed on the floor in our room next to the space heater. She slept there all night.”

She then discusses River’s first night with them:“We had one accident in the house the first night. But it was near the door. She had to go, but didn’t know how to tell us.”

Shaver explains how River has adjusted: “She runs in the yard and chases nothing with Winston, sits for cookies with Ginger and hogs the bed with Butters. The cat was very unpleased for the first few days, but is finally coming around.”

After adopting River, the family has never been happier. River’s jump landed him an amazing new family who loves and cares for him. What more could he ask for? Bill is glad he made a pit stop by the River, or else he would have never come across such an awesome pet.
