In the middle of a road, this guy finds a sweet tiny white deer

A truck driver was driving in California when he saw something lying on the road up ahead. Imagine his surprise when the object turned out to be an albino fawn. The fawn was turned in to Kindred Spirits Fawn Rescue in Loomis, California.

“The finder said he thought she was a lamb at first because of her snowy white coat,” Shasta Stratton-Quirk, of Kindred Spirits Fawn Rescue said.

Even though albino deer are rare, people still sight them across America in the wild. Rarer than a grown albino deer is to find an orphaned albino fawn. Usually, mothers will come back for their young within a certain amount of time, but this little one was all alone with no mother around as far as people knew.

For the rescue, this is the first albino that has come into their care. Thankfully, she was rescued off of the road before she was hit by a vehicle and injured or killed.

The fawn was given the name Spirit. She is growing stronger and bigger every day. Wildlife rehabilitators keep an eye on her growth and progress each day. “She is currently doing very well. She is eating and gaining weight,” Stratton-Quirk said.

The Goal Is To Release Spirit To The Wild

Spirits rescuers will continue to help her learn to do what a wild deer would do if taught by her mother. First, they will teach her to forage for food and socialize with other deer. Then they hope that someday she can be released into the wild. If returned to freedom in the wild, Spirit will not be the only albino deer. There is actually a well-established group of deer in the area with albinism in the herd.
