Here at Animals Being Cute, we encourage our readers to adopt an animal instead of shop for one. That’s why stories like the one you are about to read break our hearts into a million little pieces. If you ever needed proof that evil people own animals too, this story is it. One man traveled two hours to adopt a pair of kitties, only to have a bigot break his heart just before he arrived.
ALEX ANDREOU
You see, Alex Andreou very much wanted a couple of kitty cats to call his own. Alex is a writer that lives in the UK and was born in Greece. He is a successful man with a background in economics and law. He gives TED talks on topics such as immigration and homelessness.
On top of all that, Alex also runs the Sturdy Beggars Theatre Company.

And if Alex’s professional success isn’t enough, he has a great space for the animals, as well. He wrote that he is a “seasoned cat parent,” with an established local vet and even a large enclosed outdoor space at his house for the kitties.
A BIGOT
Because he is an animals lover, Alex knew that he wanted to adopt some kitties in need. He found a pair of cats that, “desperately needed rehoming,” two hours away. Alex didn’t hesitate before taking off to get them.
On the way there, he messaged the current owner. It was at that moment Alex got the devastating news.
So, I just travelled two hours to adopt a cat that desperately needed rehoming and was turned down for being gay. WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE. pic.twitter.com/XDwYELdkn7

You see, the owner asked him about his sexuality in that text message. Sadly, the bigot made it clear to Alex then that she would not allow a gay man to adopt the kitties.
In spite of what Alex wrote in response to the owner, her words absolutely crushed his heart.
So now I’m on the bus and I’m sobbing and people are staring at me because the truth is it hurts as much as when I was 8 years old.

“So now I’m on the bus and I’m sobbing and people are staring at me because the truth is it hurts as much as when I was 8 years old,” wrote Alex.
WHAT NEXT?
Of course, Alex still badly wanted those two cats. So, he devised a plan. He was going to have one of his girlfriend’s give him a helping hand. Lisa tried to adopt the cats for Alex instead.
I have another update and it’s not good news. This just in, from the friend who was getting the kitties for me. pic.twitter.com/5fSW7oVqvU

Sadly, the evil owner decided that even a heterosexual female wasn’t good enough. However, this incident led Alex to do some digging and what he found shocked everyone.
STOCK PHOTO
Alex took the photo of the two kitties in question and did a reverse image search on Google. Boldly, he messaged the women after he found out the truth.
THE PLOT THICKENS! I did a reverse image search. Curious to see if she responds. Quite clear there are no cats. Just a strange power-trip. pic.twitter.com/dxxuemtzxs

Alex found the same photo the evil owner used, except it was on a company’s website that makes French windows. After he confronted her with the information, she actually called him.
She just called me!!! Says I’m right, she’s been advertising for months and has rejected a lot of people, but only out of love for the cats.
— Alex Andreou (@sturdyAlex) August 23, 2017
The owner said she only rejected people out of love for the cats, though. And we can’t fault her for that. Concerning the fake photo, she said she used that because she didn’t have a camera. According to her, “all cats look the same.”
No one knows if that was a lie or not, of course.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR ALEX?
So, even though Alex solved the mystery and was able to confront the evil owner, he still didn’t have any kitty cats. Fortunately, he was smart, and he reached out on social media.
The upshot is I am REALLY ready for some cat-love after all this BS. So, if in London and looking to rehome a cat (two even better), DM me.

It didn’t take long before Alex was fielding messages from all over London. In no time at all, he found what he was looking for all that time. Alex welcomed George Meowchael-Andreou and Freddy Purrcury-Andreou into his home from a local shelter.

Since the kitties have been in their forever home with Alex, they have only been away long enough for the vet to neuter them.
Screw bigotry. Kindness wins.
Over and out,
Freddie, George, and Alex

We want to wish Alex and his kitties all the happiness in the world.
