When Nathanial Green and Elliot Green went to adopt a cat on “Free Cat Friday” at the Lynchburg Humane Society, they hoped to find a Siamese kitty. What they found instead was a beautiful blind kitten that picked them.
The kitten, now named Merlin Griffith has more than 30 thousand followers on social media. Nathan and Elliot are visual artists who enjoy sharing stunning photos of Merlin.
Merlin was dropped off at the shelter when he was a small kitten. He was born mostly blind. He also is very small in stature. By age 2, Merlin was only the size of a small water bottle.
“When I was first told that he was blind, I was a bit worried. As a full-time student also working two jobs, I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to provide Merlin with the attention he needed. As soon as I got to hold him, I think it was pretty obvious that he was perfect,” Elliot said.
Elliot described Merlin by saying, “He’s an affectionate cat that loves being acknowledged and held. He’s never destructive or petty, either. Because he was born blind, he really has no concept of fear and so he’ll attempt to jump off of pretty high places. He doesn’t hide or avoid people–he’ll run up to the door to meet us and climb all over guests sitting on the couch. His preferred place is on someone’s lap.”
Merlin has clearly found a loving home thanks to Nathan and Elliot not being set on having to have a certain breed of a kitten. By allowing Merlin to pick them, they now have a cat that loves them and is safe and happy.
