When police responded to a 911 call at a house on N. 10th street in Tampa, Florida, they found a distressing sight. Someone had called to report some dogs were thrown away in a garbage can at the location, and when they arrived, they found a mother dog on top of the recycling bin below, looking very much like she was trying to free a puppy inside, Fox 13 News reports.

Police Save Tiny Puppy’s Life

When officers looked inside, they found a puppy tied in a garbage bag and rescued him. The sweet little guy is the runt of the litter, but police said he was expected to do fine.

Officers found three more puppies, all female, under a shed nearby and rescued them.

Andrea Davis, a spokeswoman for Tampa police, said it’s not clear at this time if the mother dog pulled the puppies out of the trash can, or if someone actually did throw one of the puppies away.

“Either way it looks like someone threw away at least one puppy and mom dog was in the garbage can trying to get that puppy out,” Davis said.

Whatever way it happened, police hope to find the person who did this.

“Who would throw away a puppy or puppies?” Davis said. “Obviously that’s someone we would want to find.”

One thing is clear: These pups are beautiful babies!

Police interviewed neighbors and appeared to center their questions around people living in the house where the dogs were found. They are also asking for the public’s help. Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Anyone who wishes to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS.
