When rescuers saw this little 18-month chihuahua, they knew she was about to have a litter of puppies. No one knew however just how many she would have.
The dog was named LOL, and she was surrendered by her former owner to Unleashed Pet Rescue & Adoption in Kansas. From there, she was placed with a foster family, who knew that she could go into labor any minute.
After only five days of her rescue, she delivered the pups.
Her foster parents saw her begin to deliver her puppies. They were right by her side every minute of the delivery. When seeing LOL was going into labor, they called Rebecca Taylor, a volunteer from the rescue center. But just how many puppies were there going to be?
“Foster mom told us eight, and we thought surely she was done,” Taylor told The Dodo. “Then came nine and 10.”
But then …
“The next morning there was an 11th puppy!” Taylor said. Her reaction? She said she was in “shock!”
Previously, the record stayed at 10 puppies in the biggest litter. LOL broke the record! Her foster family is now working to find homes for all the cute puppies. LOL couldn’t be prouder, but she does have her paws full. Taylor contacted the Guinness Book of World Records to see if LOL makes the record, and they would get back to her in 12 weeks.
“They are doing wonderful,” Taylor said. “They are all getting a start in life to be healthy.”
But, for the next few months, LOL and her pups will be bonding before they go off to their forever homes.
“We are very optimistic about their future,” Taylor said. “They are each going to have wonderful, loving homes.”
