Practice makes perfect as the old saying goes. This is no different when it comes to sheep-herding. It takes years and years of practice to become an effective sheep-herder.
Owners train dogs for many months just to get them started in sheep-herding. During that time, the dogs make many mistakes. A 7-month-old Border Collie, Rocky, started his training for his career as a sheepdog.
Rockey lives Devon, England, where his owner, Rosalyn Edwards, works with him. Things seem to be going along well for the two. Rocky listens to Rosalyn and is progressing well.
One day while Rosalyn is in the kitchen, she hears a loud, strange noise that catches her attention. What she sees takes her breath away!
Rosalyn turns around to see 9 sheep prancing around in her kitchen!
Her husband and son forgot to close the gate. The sheepdog-in-training took this as an opportunity to show off his skills. Rockey led the sheep straight to the kitchen.
Rosalyn remarks, “I thought it was funny at the time, but then there was quite a lot of wee, poo, and mud everywhere. It took me a little while to clean it all up.”
Next came the task of getting all the sheep out, this took Rosalyn quite some time to get them all back to the field.
