With the busyness of life, sometimes people don’t stop to care for animals in need. It’s easier for some people to walk on by than to commit the time that it takes to help a hurting creature. Thankfully for one sickly dog, someone did care and they did stop, and that has made all the difference in the dog’s life.
Karla Solis found a frightened dog trembling underneath a vehicle in Tijuana, Mexico. The dog was mostly bald and greatly underweight. Karla was able to sweet talk the dog out from under the car. The poor pup was so frightened that he was afraid to make eye contact with her.
It made Solis sad to see that the dog was suffering from a bad case of mange and other tick-borne infections. He only weighed 40 pounds, which was half the weight that he should have been. His pelvic bones were sticking out and he was very weak. Once checked by a veterinarian it was determined that he had been suffering from Ehrlichia, which is a tick-borne illness. Also, an unknown mass was detected in his abdomen.
Solis contacted a local rescuer named Becky Moder. Moder helps neglected animals in Mexico. She transports them to shelters in the United States. She also facilitates raising donations for medical treatments. Though she was able to raise some money for this dog, she could only raise half of what was needed. Moder decided to use her own money to pay for the other half of the dog’s treatments.
Eliot Is Redeemed
The dog estimated to be 5 years old was given the name Eliot. He responded very well to treatments and was soon listed up for adoption in the United States. It didn’t take long for Eliot to get adopted. Once Eliot was in the United States, Kim Forrest and her partner saw him at a local rescue called The Barking Lot in El Cajon, California. They were looking for an older dog with a sweet disposition. And that is exactly what they found when they discovered Eliot.
Elliot was a perfect fit with his new humans. They took him in, renamed him Asher and the rest is history. “I could honestly not imagine having a better dog,” Forest happily reported.
This story goes to show that a little love and care can totally transform a life both on the inside and the outside.
