Soldier Flies Dog He Was Friends With In Iraq Back To US, Touching Video When They See Each Other

When Nick Pierzchalski, a soldier who served in Iraq, reunited with a special friend, their reactions were priceless. The article and video below will show it all.

The Florida National Guardsman spent his time in Iraq flying helicopters for medical purposes. During his time there he saved many people and made many friends. One friend he made, in particular, became very special to him. This friend was furry! Pierzchalski welcomed a lone German Shepard mix on base. The one-year-old pup spent most of his life living in the desert until she met Pierzchalski. Once they got closer their bond was inseparable, along with some of the other crew members. He commented,

“THIS DOG RAN UP TO ME, RAN UP TO OUR GROUP, AND BEFRIENDED US IMMEDIATELY.”

After becoming closer and closer with the pooch, the crew decided to name her Airys.  They began to feed her and take care of her. Airys even had her own kennel! After living in the desert her whole life, she must have felt like she was living a luxury life. Airys repaid the crew by being a good pet on the base; she also lifted everyone’s spirits. Having a pet anywhere can make any place feel more like home and that is exactly what she did.

When it was finally time to leave the base Nick felt heartbroken because he did not want to leave his new found best friend.  A fellow soldier suggested,

“YOU NEED TO BRING THAT DOG HOME.”

Nick took the initiative to get Airys home to him. He teamed up with the SPCA International and Operation Baghdad Pups to accomplish his goal. After flying from Iraq to New York to Tampa, Airys was finally where she belonged, with Nick. News crews were there to capture the sentimental reunion.
