A recent theft occurred in the Turkish city of Giresun. A city worker was reviewing security camera footage when it revealed a wonderful act of kindness and generosity. In the footage, a dog was revealed resting on the sidewalk in the middle of a snowstorm. It was daytime, but the poor dog was facing an even colder night.

This Dog Was Fending For Itself In Freezing Weather
Then a man approaches the dog and does something unexpected, The Dodo reports. He offers the dog food and the jacket he’d been wearing. And Facebook users, touched by the man’s kindness, sent the video into the viral-sphere, and it was shared nearly 2.8 thousand times.

After a bit of research, the man was identified as Bülent Kalpakçıoğlu, a municipal worker for the City, Doggiescare reports.

“If I did not give my jacket, it would have eaten at my conscience,” he said. “While we are sitting warm at home, they are outside in the cold.”
This act of kindness didn’t go unnoticed by Kalpakçıoğlu’s employer, and he was also given a certificate by the city’s mayor Kerim Aksu.
“With this action, he gave a lesson in humanity,” Aksu said. “Animals are our friends. We love people, we love our city, we love all living things that are an integral part of us and our city.”
This act of kindness may mean all the difference between life and death for this dog. It’s heartening to know that others will take steps to protect animals when the weather turns harsh. It’s what anyone living in a cold climate should do to protect animals in winter.
