A family was saved when their dog woke everyone up during a house fire, and then perished in the fire. The Butler family in Florida are alive today because their Jack Russell Terrier, Zippy awoke everyone in the house. Zippy ran around barking until the whole family got up and was able to get out. Sadly, this hero dog was not able to escape the blazes. Once everyone was out of the house, Leroy Butler realized that Zippy was engulfed in the flames inside.
“The floor in the living room was all on fire so there was nowhere for him to run out,” Butler said. “He was a short little dog. There was nowhere for him to go.”
The firefighters believe that the fire started in the attic of the home. But it is unknown as to how it started.
“Zippy was just a little Jack Russell terrier, a little black and white dog we adopted 3-4 years ago and he’s just been the house pet,” Butler explained. “He was real helpful and we’re going to miss him.” “He did his job, we rescued him, and I guess he returned the favor,” added the man.
Zippy Had Already Perished When Leroy Entered The Burning House
An attempt was made by Leroy to go back in the burning house to get Zippy. But sadly by the time Leroy made it in the house Zippy was already dead. The smoke was just too much for the little dog to survive through.
Though Zippy is gone, his legacy lives on in the family that he protected and saved. We often hear how dogs will give their lives for the ones that they love. In this case, it was clearly played out by Zippy’s heroic act. He could have easily just ran to the door and scratched to get out. But instead, he ran around alerting everyone of the danger. A family is alive today because of his heroic efforts.
