The last thing anyone expects to find in a drying up canal is a baby otter, but a utility worker in Phoenix found just that on April 20th. They spotted him while working and couldn’t just leave him there to die.
“He would go under the water and come back up and fight a little more, calling out for his Momma.” This 4 week old otter was so little and week that he couldn’t make it up the rescue stairs that other animals use to escape if they fall in. The workers tried several times to reach the baby otter.
When they finally brought him to shore he was exhausted and very weak. Once he was transported to the shelter he was starving, so the little otter pup was fed trout mash mixed with kitten’s milk exactly what a growing otter needs.
His most recent photo is MESMERIZING! I want one……he’s adorable!
Otterly, THE cutest thing around!
He will continue to recover at the Out of Africa Wildlife Park in Camp Verde, Arizona. There, he will continue to get the care he needs to have a much better life filled with lots of playing, sunbathing and splashing with friends.
