Woman Hears Grim Cries of a Dog Coming From Neighbor's Apartment and Calls 911

We will never understand why certain humans treat animals the way they do. Animals are a part of our family, becoming more than just pets. And yet, there are those who abuse and mistreat the ones they’re lucky enough to own. That is where our story begins when a woman hears grim cries coming from somewhere in her apartment complex.

Heather Frazer first heard a puppy in distress in her apartment but wasn’t able to locate the noise. Eventually, she was able to locate the cries coming from one of her neighbors. Unfortunately, she also witnessed the abuse first hand. With her quick thinking, she called 911, and the authorities responded to her call.

When the police arrived, they found the puppy’s owner, 21-year-old student Shundong Hu, had beaten the puppy with a metal rod.

Raine, a golden retriever puppy, was found traumatized. He had several lacerations, tissue swelling and lots of bruising.

“It’s hard to comprehend because as a person we are so much stronger. Why would you pick on something that is so defenseless and small? Something that doesn’t stand a chance against you. It’s cruel, it’s cowardly, and it’s 100% wrong.” said rescuer Heather Frazer.

It is sickening to say two cats had also been found during a search of the abuser’s apartment. One cat had wounds around its mouth and the second’s eye was detached from the socket as a result of their extended abuse. The animals were then taken to the Arizona Humane Society and nursed back to health over the several weeks they stayed at their Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital.

Raine Gets a Second Chance at Life

There are a select few who don’t make it after being found severely abused. Raine, however, was lucky enough to get a second chance at life. Once his story spread AHS received several emails and calls from people who wanted to help Raine.

They received adoption offers from over 300 people, all offering their homes and support to this brave puppy.

In the end, the workers from AHS decided it should be the woman who saved Raine’s life that was the most deserving.

“Despite all he has been through, this little pup is so resilient and spirited and chooses to spend his time playing and curled up in people’s laps,” AHS said in a statement.

However, there is more good news to round out our story; Hu was arrested on felony animal cruelty charges and stands to face further charges related to the cat’s injuries. Check out the amazing video about how one woman saved the lives of three innocent animals and found a new companion for life.
